Weight Loss Advice That Can Cause You to Put on Weight - Avoid Doing This at All Costs

If you are even a little bit overweight you must be used to receiving weight loss advice from all sorts of people. Well meaning friends, relatives and co workers bombard you with nuggets of information that they are absolutely sure will turn your life around. Be very careful of following each and every piece of advice because some of them can actually be counterproductive and cause you to put on lots of weight.

One of the most common bits of weight loss advice is that you have to drastically cut down your calorie intake. The accepted wisdom is that if you severely curtail your calorie intake your body will be forced to burn its reserves of fat in order to sustain normal activity. You will slim down as a result of this, right? Wrong.

What happens in actuality is that you will begin to put on weight in the form of increased fat reserves. You are dismayed to note a spike in your weight after all your efforts at dieting. The reason for this is very simple. Your body is programmed to put on weight at the first hint of impending famine. This is nothing but a throwback to our ancestor's food habits when food was scarce and life uncertain.

In other words, you should never attempt to starve yourself to a smaller size. You are genetically doomed to failure.

Another popular advice is that you should eat only two meals a day because you should skip at least one meal in order to reduce your calorie intake. You will realize that this too is a mistake because if you feed your body small meals at more frequent intervals, say 6 meals a day, your rate of metabolism will rise and you will burn a lot more calories than you thought possible.

The key to losing weight permanently is to lose it steadily and gradually over time. If you manage to increase your metabolic rate you will keep burning calories even when you are asleep or at rest. This will ensure weight loss.

Be very careful about the weight loss advice you receive. It would be more logical to take advice only from those people who are already fit and healthy. You can safely disregard all the rest. When you are trying to get fit you need the best inputs possible and cannot waste your time on anything else.
